Former bookkeeper admits embezzlement at tile firm
Sarah Lichtenstein a 36 year old former bookkeeper and receptionist at R Ganassa Tile Co admitted on Wednesday to embezzling about 196 242 dollars from February 1994 to September 1995. Assistant State s Attorney Eric Schaffer said sentencing guidelines for embezzling from the firm would likely run three to seven years. She forged 117 checks and used company funds to pay child support and payments to her husband s business. The IRS later found missing funds and the firm faced withholding tax and workers compensation shortfalls. Judge Mary Ann Stepler deferred sentencing to March 12. Lichtenstein was released on bail.
