City backs lower taxes for farms in annexed lands
Frederick city officials push county to defer higher tax rates on undeveloped farmland annexed into the city. Mayor Paul Gordon seeks a policy allowing Crum family farms near Opossumtown Pike, annexed in 1988, to pay agricultural taxes for up to 10 years after annexation if they keep farming. The Crums, who had planned development now face rising residential assessments and seek relief at the next joint city-county meeting.
