FCC officials traced a bomb hoax received by telephone at 7 45 am prompting evacuation and building lockdown until 1 am no device found. Classes proceeded in the afternoon with many students returning, some concerned the scare targeted exams set for Wednesday morning. This marked FCCs second bomb threat this semester after the January 7 incident.
Washington AP reports Sen. Henry M Jackson and other leaders floated a possible price rollback on domestic oil production as part of an energy bill. Nixon may push a tax on excess profits. rollback would target stripper wells producing 10 barrels a day or less. Public hearings continue with oil executives pressed for cost and tax break disclosures.
Senate approves amendment to block Sixes Bridge dam funding in Frederick County. The Mathias-Beall measure requires Army Corps studies on alternatives and a two year Potomac estuary study before any construction funds are authorized, potentially delaying the $2 million project by years.

New York AP Exxon Corp the nations largest oil company reports 1973 fourth quarter profits near 784 million up from 493 million a year earlier. Full year profits reach 2.44 billion or 10.69 per share. Jamieson cites higher US petroleum and natural gas earnings and 18.8 percent return on equity. Exxon plans 16 billion in capital outlays over four years to expand gas and oil reserves. Cities Service reports Q4 profits 42.1 million, up from 28.1 million in 1972.
The region warmed into the 60s as cooler air moved in and fog burned off near Frederick. Lows will be in the 40s to near 50s with a 35 degree reading this morning. January continues a rainier trend, with combined December and January rainfall at 13.10 inches and warmer than usual conditions expected. A robin was seen by Mrs. Irvin E. Rhoderick at 620 Grant Place on Tuesday.
Military sources say Israel began withdrawing about 12 miles east of the Suez Canal and started clearing thousands of land mines and communications lines from the occupied Egyptian sector. The Cairo to Suez desert road was opened to Egyptians, ending a halt since last October’s war as Israeli forces pulled back from roughly 1,000 square miles west of the canal.
New York AP reports the stock market extended gains as Secretary Kissinger’s optimistic forecast of a yearly restart of Arab oil shipments supported traders. The Dow Jones industrial average edged up about 4 points toward 67.6 by 10:30 a.m., amid upbeat tone and early trading strength.
