Death by Own Action Casts Shadow On Family Evening
Charles Roy Smith aged five watched a TV show as his father, a World War II veteran and member of the Rocky Ridge Church of the Brethren, fatally shot himself at his parents home on East Sixth Street. A phone alert led police to find Smith seated at the head of the stairs with a twelve gauge shotgun, a note on the table declaring despair. The tragedy, witnessed in spirit by the young boy, ends a life after a day when he told his wife she could attend his funeral Tuesday.
