Alarm System For County Is Proposed
Frederick County Volunteer Firemen's Association backs a county wide alarm system to ensure no community is left unprotected while engines respond. Captain Melvin Schneering chairs a five member committee including chiefs from Thurmont Middletown Brunswick and Waltersville to meet state police next week. The move follows a Lewistown fire that drew six engines, highlighting confusion over alarms and the need for a centralized notification process. Mother Is Excoriated For Death Of Child
Baltimore January 29 Judge Robert France lamented he could not order sterilization for Angelina Herd a 19 year old unmarried mother whose baby died of malnutrition and gross neglect. Herd faced a first degree murder charge last November but prosecutors failed to prove criminal neglect to support a manslaughter verdict. The defendant testified the week old infant could not take milk and that she wrapped the baby in a blanket and carried it to the moving vehicle that day. She later realized something was wrong and noted the child was her third.
