Bus Load Of Pupils Safe After Wreck
A bus carrying Frederick city schoolchildren was narrowly spared a serious crash at East Patrick and Franklin streets when a passing Mundy Motor Lines tractor trailer braked hard and cut across the road. The bus driver had signals on. the tractor trailer operator saw no signals. Both vehicles sustained minor damage and no injuries were reported. Investigators say the accident could have been deadly given the bus was near a crowd of waiting children.

Cpl Grayson L Mathis 19 son of Mr and Mrs Charles Mathis near Damascus is reported missing in action in Korea by the Department of Defense. He has been missing since December 3 after serving with the 31st Infantry Regiment. The last letter dated November 22 from a rear area rest camp notes he had been in heavy fighting. Mathis enlisted January 2 1949 at 17 and served in Japan and the Pacific. He lived in Damascus with his parents for about six years after moving from Gaithersburg and worked in the family lumber business and on a farm. He was one of eight children.
