Robert Robinson, a bankrupt broker, was acquitted. The former treasurer of the Agricultural Trust Company of Lancaster was sentenced to 12 years in the Eastern Penitentiary after pleading to 13 counts of embezzlement and keeping fraudulent accounts. Fines totaling 7500 were imposed as the bank closed following a State banking department action.
Paris January 10 The Associated Press reports Premier Poincare declared his cabinet will adhere to the treaty terms and denounced propaganda as tainted by a dangerous nationalism He said Cannes protocol must be approved or rejected before any Genoa talks so no treaty provisions are debated indirectly He signaled hope for peaceful Anglo French settlement and mutual benefits.

London Jan 19 A Central News dispatch from Rome quotes Dr Ettore Marchiufaze attending Pope Benedict stating fever is somewhat diminished but absolute rest and quiet are necessary. The Pope is troubled by coughing pains in the head and chest and weakness but remains in high spirits.
A western cold wave, likely to reach the Atlantic Coast by tomorrow, prompted warnings for tonight in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. The cold area is expected to creep over the eastern region and extend into the South by tomorrow night. The report comes from the Weather Bureau in Washington on January 19.
Washington January 19 The Associated Press reports the Interstate Commerce Commission may lower rate schedules with the lower rate first applied to coal. J A Morrow vice president of the National Coal Association told officials and about 2 000 mine operators that current freight costs average 2 27 per ton from mines to consuming points while coal at the mines runs 2 15. He cited rate advances since 1914 and argued that savings from reduced freight and earlier price drops justify the cut to lower freight charges, benefiting railroads and industry.
New York Jan 19 trading grew more professional and irregular as the session advanced. Except Crucible the market tone stayed heavy and leaders extended their gains while motors equipments oils and tobaccos remained weak. Rails drew little activity and many leaders stayed unquoted. Call money opened at 4 percent.
A heated House skirmish in Annapolis ended with Administration forces winning by a clear margin after Delegate Hall of Baltimore interrupted to seek an audit of the Motor Vehicle Commissioner. Hall alleged misused funds, charged they supported “cossacks” in Baltimore via the state police, while Gambrill defended the commissioner. the Ways and Means referral followed.
