Bedford Indiana January 19 Frank Evang and William Elmer Browning were arrested on warrants for the murder of Miss Sarah Shafer on January 21 18. The arrests follow a tale by Browning’s divorced wife Mrs Cok who says Browning and Evans killed Miss Shafer with a sling and rock then hid the body in a cab. Browning denies the charge.
In Cleveland ailing Mrs Cassie J Chadwick collapsed under police watch as two physicians were summoned to her jail cell to treat what officials described as heart and mental health issues. Her husband Dr Chadwick reportedly had not visited recently and requested alerts on dangerous symptoms.
Congress may pass the Hepburn railroad bill this session as leaders from the senate and House push a compromise meeting President Roosevelt’s aims while avoiding actions he opposes. The Hepburn measure should move to committee on interstate and foreign commerce and be reported to the House, with passage anticipated before February 1 despite possible Senate hurdles.
