Judge To Be Picked For Motherwell Trial
The State Judicial Council will choose a judge to preside at the murder trial of Larry Lord Motherwell slated to begin February 15. District Attorney Gordon I. Smith said a defense affidavit alleging prejudice by Superior Judge Winslow Christian would be filed with the court clerk, which would automatically disqualify Christian. Motherwell is charged with killing 72 year old Pearl Pumey, a Washington widow with whom he traveled in 1951. Attorney John T. Regis said the defense seeks prejudice ruling amid clashes during a preliminary hearing in which Judge Christian reportedly demanded a California attorney to handle tasks.
