A 35 year old Washington county man Charlies Henry Hawes pleaded guilty to forging a $300 check to buy a 1931 Ford. Acquitted On Charge Of Carrying Weapon In Brunswick Trial
Leroy Herbert, a badly injured driver from Pleasant View, was acquitted of carrying a concealed weapon after a Potomac River bridge crash near Brunswick on November 28. Herman C. Gubisch longtime Frederick Lions Club secretary dies at University Hospital Baltimore aged about 56 after a heart attack. The remains of Pfe Earl Harwood of Burkittsville, a US Marine Corps sergeant killed in action on Okinawa, were returned to the United States for burial. Harwood, Brunswick High School alumnus, was 21 and had been selected by the New York Yankees for a farm team before enlisting in 1943. Burial planned in Blue Ridge Cemetery.

A family of seven lost four members in a one room fire west of Carnbrook in Somerset County. An 18 month old survived, while two others were badly burned. Mrs Anna Ross Snyder 28 and daughters Nancy Janet 5 Elizabeth Jane 7 Charlotte 9 died in the blaze. Lawrence Snyder 40 and daughter Gertrude was hospitalized. Neighbors Michael Pysnik found the fire and a baby outside.
