Police investigate the death of 20 year old Peter Scott Haskins of Laverock Pa who apparently shot himself with a 20 gauge shotgun on Masser Road near Frederick early today. He was an Antioch College student in Columbia and lived on Masser Road with two others.

A three day cold wave froze sprinkler pipes at Frederick Community College forcing morning classes to be cancelled with a decision on evening classes pending. Meanwhile two local stores reported pipe bursts but remained open. A Dorchester County woman was found frozen to death in a field and a Baltimore woman was treated for severe frostbite as the region braces for a warmup expected Tuesday.

Fire crews battle multiple weekend blazes across area
Local firemen were called out repeatedly over the weekend to fights blazes caused by overheated chimneys as residents used fuel to ward off cold. The New Market and Mt Airy companies responded to a Lynn Burke Road attic fire at 5 15 am with $500 damage.
