Keedynville Boyle In Korea By Hal Boyle

From the Korea Front a dispatch by Hal Boyle describes foxhole life on a ridge south of Wonju. Sergeant Thomas G. Zick of San Antonio and Cpl. Robert E. Kelly of Alliance endure extreme cold and constant fire as they tend to feet, sleep, and rations while awaiting orders. The piece blends frontline realities with moments of humor and hardship as soldiers cite a lack of warmth, need for sleeping bags, and the daily grind of a war of attrition on a bitter January stretch.

Misconceptions Spread About Far East Chiefs of Staff Visits

Washington commentators misread recent trips by General Collins and General Vandenberg to the Far East as moves against General MacArthur or as plans to withdraw from Korea. Officials say the trips were routine surveys of progress, manpower needs, and future plans, with replacements due in February and March. The war's course hinges on battlefield tides, not sudden policy shifts, while the chain of command remains intact through Admiral Sherman’s replacement at sea and Ridgway assuming broader theater authority.
