New York AP reports Carnegie Hall will celebrate Benny Goodman’s first jazz concert of 1938 with a Saturday tribute featuring Bob Wilbur and a band using Goodman arrangements. Orphans review shows skill but unsettled emotion
Barbara Shulgasser praises Alan Pakula's direction and Harold's uneasy father figure in Orphans, noting strong performances by Albert Finney, Matthew Modine, and Kevin Anderson. The piece questions whether the film’s claustrophobic setup can sustain its emotional reach, leaving viewers as mere voyeurs rather than moved observers.

Stranded sci fi thriller lacks authentic chills and pace
A five alien trio arrive during a North Carolina storm trapping a grandma and her granddaughter. Hostages rise as sheriff deputies intervene, deaths occur, and relations deepen between humans and extraterrestrials. Weak dialogue and uneven acting dampen this tale, though Dierdre gains insight and romance with one alien.
