Aberdeen spy case suggests revenge motive for Soviet contact
Maryland man Sgt. Daniel W. Richardson of Aberdeen Proving Ground was arrested after an undercover FBI setup when he tried to deliver defense related information to the Soviet Union. The New York Times cited a Reagan official saying Richardson acted from money and revenge against the military, with no Soviet agents present at arrest. He faces espionage and larceny charges under the Uniform Code, and could face severe penalties. Richardson joined the Army in 1968 and is part of the 601st Ordnance Battalion at Aberdeen, a facility noted for its classified work on arms and vehicles.
