Senate poised to approve House water cleanup act
The House approved the Chesapeake Bay cleanup act and the Senate is expected to back it next week, sending the measure to the White House. It would authorize $3 million annually 1987 through 1990 for the EPA Chesapeake Bay Program, with extra funding for sewage treatment grants and non point pollution controls, while a Senate substitute by Robert Dole could reduce non point grants and sewage aid. Maryland officials Mikulski and Sarbanes praised the bill as crucial for estuary health and regional industry.
