Army Sets Six Month Active Duty for New Guardsmen
The Army announced a major revision to the service and training program requiring all new National Guardsmen to undergo six months of active duty training effective April 1. The plan, directed by Secretary of Defense Wilson, faces immediate protest from the National Guard Association which threatens to take the fight to Congress. The change cuts military service obligations for most reservists and offers a path to avoid draft duty, with retroactive effects for current volunteers and protections for career soldiers.
