Former Frederick Airport operator denies abandoning facility
The former operator of Frederick Municipal Airport, T. J. Whalen, rejects charges he abandoned the site. He says city officials met with Phillip Steiner on January 5 to discuss a transfer, and that Steiner reached a deal to take over operations on January 6. Mayor Derr says the city now runs the airport. Whalen alleges Steiner bought equipment and fuel, and hired manager Paul Cochran to continue operations. Whalen sold his gear to Steiner but denies removing it. He had sought lease or operator transfer changes for a year while incurring losses. Whalen also holds other business interests in the region.
