Public official Uther Derr 77 recalls long career
Uther C. Derr, 77, a Frederick County public official for about 30 years, reflects on winters, health, and a life spanning from his Lewistown birth on February 17, 1845. He served as sheriff, police chief, market master, and correctional system administrator, with a stint at Montevue Hospital and the House of Correction. He notes milder modern winters, his stroke years ago, and his enduring interest in basketball and politics at the arms conference. Derr now lives with his daughter at 139 West Patrick Street, leaving 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
