Havana January 14 The Cuban post office fraud hearing resumed. E G Rathbone was called and testified at length on post department workings and the appointments of Neely and Reeves. He said Reeves was sent by Washington and that orders for monthly postmaster accounts were issued in 1899. The judge pressed whether Rathbone ordered those monthly inspections and he replied that he could not oversee every detail. In Camden New Jersey the will of General William Joyce Sewell was probated, leaving his estate to family members. The pension bill in Congress carried about 129.8 million and included debate over veteran preferences and fraud measures. The Senate discussed a commerce department bill and the Nicaragua canal proposal. Walcott defeated Jackson in a six round bout. smallpox spread in Adirondack lumber camps. and a Boston runaway incident injured Mr and Mrs Cheney.

Nearly 250 delegates from Forest City to Mocanaqua attended the United Mine Workers district No 1 convention in Wilkesbarre Pa. T D Nichols presided as discussions included the eight hour day car size and relations with the Stationary Engineers and Firemen. Five candidates for a national board member sparked rivalry and recommendations will go to the Indianapolis convention. P J Barrett praised mine workers for support during the strike.

Two Men Hold Up Poolroom Robbery In Kansas City
Kansas City January 14 two masked men forced all inside the Harry H. Chick poolroom on Baltimore Avenue to lie on the floor and took between 2500 and 2500 dollars before escaping. A third man unmasked entered as the robbery occurred. Police pursue possible accomplices.
