Kursk salvage plan aims to lift submarine this summer
Kursk set for a $70 million salvage starting in April with two nuclear reactors and 22 missiles aboard. Recovery by Dutch and Russian firms could take three days, using cranes and more than 20 cables to hoist the 14,000 ton submarine to a barge for transport to port. Concerns persist about corrosion and radioactive leakage if left too long and about lifting the damaged front section.
