War Dept orders air raid drills and civilian alert
The War Department approves practice alerts and instructs unfed agencies to resume air raid drills if the strategic situation warrants. It says this does not signal the war is over for the continental U S and emphasizes civilian vigilance, efficient manpower use, and supplying fighting forces. Volunteers are still needed for control centers and air raid wardens and related services. In a separate note, about 30 million lobsters are caught annually from Prince Edward Island to Massachusetts.

Investigation continues on Monday robberies across garages and stations
State and county officials disclosed Wednesday night that several suspects believed involved in robberies of garages and filling stations on Monday were being questioned. No suspects were yet in custody and officers did not reveal identities. A full inventory check showed fewer tools and merchandise taken than first reported, suggesting possible involvement by non residents and similar crimes in nearby Carroll County. Separately, Thomas W Pangborn of Pangborn Corporation in Hagerstown Md was elected to the National Association board of directors.
