Emmitsburg Milk Retailers Cited and Warned by Health Inspector
Ten Emmitsburg milk retailers were cited by Inspector Callaway for not selling milk only from sealed containers and for lacking state permits. Retailers admitted ignorance of the permit law and agreed to obtain proper licensing as of June 1 1940. Maryland permits for retail milk cost $2, and applications will be mailed to all local milk handlers including lunch rooms and drug stores. The inspector expressed surprise that no milk sale permits existed in Emmitsburg. He warned that waste milk residue must be discarded and that sales must come only from sealed containers.
