McCarthy Keeps Committee Post Amid GOP Senate Split
Washington January 11 Republican senators split over minority seats in a closed meeting. McCarthy retained a seat on Government Operations after Case failed to move to strike his name. McCarthy held three committee jobs while Langer Jenner Mundt and Mrs Smith each held more than two. Goldwater named head of the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee succeeding Dirksen. The note closes with a garbled line about a weighing circus at 11 tons dry and three times as much wet.
