Shortage Of Physicians Facing Frederick Area
Frederick County faces a trend toward specialty medicine, risking general practice coverage for 87,500 residents. Of 24 general practitioners, 12 serve Frederick City. 41 specialists mostly in Frederick City, six internal medicine and six general surgeons, many at Frederick Memorial Hospital. County Medical Society head Dr E A Dettbarn warns that with population growth to 93,600 by 1972 a serious general practice shortfall could arise, compounded by too few pediatricians to treat children.
