Schriever Challenges Ike's Plan For Space Agency

Air Force General Bernard A. Schriever told the Senate Preparedness Investigation subcommittee that Eisenhower's plan for a separate space agency would duplicate Air Force capabilities and slow progress toward a manned moon mission. He warned that immediate production boosts could double IRBM deployment and argued the nation must leverage existing strengths rather than split efforts. The hearing also covered Army and Air Force missile decisions and Rockefeller's testimony on military power shifting toward the Soviet Union.
