About 60 men gathered at the State Armory for the annual meeting of State Roads supervisors and district inspectors from Pred county and surrounding areas. Chief Engineer El Reindollar and Charles Bryant outlined state led projects, materials, and field procedures under Public Works and Civil Works administrations.
Dr. Ward, director of Women’s Activities for Maryland CWA, launches a drive to place more women in clerical, census, and secretarial work. County administrators are urged to appoint one or more women to committees to accelerate placement. Several counties already assign women to clerical posts and wage projects begin in earnest.
Washington date AP report states a federal appropriation of 30 million dollars is urged to keep elementary and secondary schools open for the remainder of the school year. A 100 million request is discussed for school buildings with 100 percent grants. The committee on education outlines the program drafted by education authority.

Washington AP reports the Senate Banking Committee questioned Ford Motor Company officials about large deposits in Guardian group banks in Michigan before a banking holiday. Witnesses said Ford was asked to make sizeable deposits at intervals to aid cash condition statements. Edsel Ford, a Guardian founder and director, figures in the inquiry.
Edith M Sharp seeks 1000 damages in circuit court for nervousness and distress after finding a dead mouse in a Coca Cola bottle from the Muse Tailoring Co plant on South Market Street. Coca Cola Bottling Co. defends bottling safeguards. trial before Judge Arthur D. Willard.
Clarence Gry Gordon Haddon, 43, unemployed engineer, wins the right to present defense witnesses in a trial charging him with threatening and attempting blackmail of King George. Hearing adjourned to January 18 or 23 after agreeing to subpoena witnesses. Haddon's lack of funds forces self representation.
The News-Post 1834 Year Book and Almanac is now in distribution to Sunsorbers. It compiles information on Frederick city and Frederick county politics for 1934 elections, state legislation, and the focal option issue. The volume marks Maryland’s 300th anniversary with a cover illustration by Helen Smith and includes voter data, salary notes, and notices of statewide repeal.
Washington January 47 AP Prohibition may come and go but the House and Senate will remain dry if actions linger. A stalled bill would legalize sale of liquor in the District of Columbia under a licensing system, but legislators will not be able to drink on Capitol Hill. The Senate acted long ago and even Senator Borah, here since 1967, never saw it. the House followed suit years earlier.
Six Honolulu bound navy seaplanes started from San Francisco on a non stop mission to Honolulu. By 5 32 pm Pacific time they were about 600 miles away after flying 1550 nautical miles. Commanders reported everything going fine as they neared the target. The crew of six officers and 24 enlisted men expected to land around noon to 2 30 pm Pacific time if winds hold. A second AP report noted the halfway point reached near daybreak with an estimated arrival about 24 hours after departure with fair weather and favorable tailwinds forecast.
In Hagerstown Maryland two men aged 23 identified as Orvald Quver of Gouster Ohio and Yode Melcote of Needmore Pennsylvania died when their car wrecked after striking Deputy Sheriff Richard Renner during an escape attempt. The deputy was severely injured. A bystander reported the wreck after the guard rail collapse.
Washington on January 11 AP reports mounting friction in Congress as the Roosevelt program faces a direct House test. Despite disruptions, indications point to passage of the president's economy measures for another fiscal year amid a strong Democratic majority.

Roger R Rice installed the new officers, including President Charles W Heesey and treasurer D Ralph Zimmerman, among others. Ladies who served the dinner were listed, and a separate court notice involving Roscoe Duckett was reported.
