Buckwheat Cake Champion Declares Victory in Ohio

Beatiside Record notes H. H. Bissell an employee of the New York Pennsylvania and Ohio railroad from Youngstown Ohio won a cake eating wager. He ate sixty three cakes on a bet with Charles Near a miller with cakes at least five inches in diameter. Wear withdrew after fifty eight cakes claiming victory for Bissell.

Frederick County Poultry Pigeon Club Opens Exhibition

The second annual Frederick County Poultry Pigeon and Pet Stock Club show opens in Junior Hall with over four hundred entries from across the county and country. Judge A F Cooper of Homer City Pa will oversee judging and give a lecture tomorrow. incubators on display attract visitors as three loads of birds arrive. The hall stays open until 10 pm tonight.

Fishermen record catch at Monocacy Frederick Junction

Mr J E Brown, Fish Commissioner, noted catches at the Monocacy River at Frederick Junction on the B and O line. The haul included three tone and end two Leather Carp eight hundred Blue Carp one thousand Boyish Tench. Brown says the English Tench are among the finest that swim.

Accidental Shooting Wounds Youth at Local Store

In Westminster a boy fired a 32 caliber pistol while aiming at a display case. The shot misfired toward the front window striking Howard Pfeiffer in the eye, tearing it out and leaving him unconscious on the pavement. Dr. J A Preston treated him and located the bullet in the skull. Pfeiffer, about nineteen, is in critical condition. his friend Lamotte, also nineteen, is his warm companion and son of local residents.

Canal Pays Expenses and Reports First Profit Since 1883

President Stephen Gambrill of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and several directors attended the Annapolis meeting as stockholders prepared for today's session in the state chamber. Gambrill’s report shows the canal has paid expenses over the past year, the first such occurrence since 1883, though canal tonnage fell short of expectations. Directors met at the Maryland Hotel with Gambrill James A.L McClure John A. Altean G. W. Dobbin and Patrick Hamill present and the report was adopted.

A Wedding at Rockville

Correction sought after school altercation at Kemptown

A public school incident at Kemptown Monday left three boys, Jim Lewis, Hirem Lewis and John Hi llileary, in a fight over a knife. Jim Lewis drew a blade aiming at Hirao, two larger boys intervened, and Bad Clay was stabbed in the leg, suffering a deep wound before bleeding was stopped. Clay is said to be long in good health.
