Gas leak repaired after vehicle hits gas meter on South Street

A vehicle struck a gas meter on West South Street at about 3 a.m. causing a four-gas leak and evacuation of about 30 people. Damon C Poydras 22 of Frederick was flown to Washington County Hospital for head and neck injuries. Residents returned home later Monday as Washington Gas fixed the line and police continued the investigation.

Marriott fined for selling beer to cadet in Maryland

Courtyard by Marriott was fined 200 by Frederick County officials after a test conducted with a female police cadet showed sale of beer to someone underage. The case led to two months probation and a 10 day suspension if another sale to a minor occurs. The incident was part of a county liquor law enforcement effort to curb underage alcohol access.

Damascus Man Pleads Guilty halting Four Day Jury Trial

James Eric Mullin, 47, pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment after admitting he used a .22 caliber handgun to wound Roger Dale Trotter, 41, during an argument at a Mount Airy gas station in December 1999. Sentencing postponed to March after background checks. Mullin has no prior crimes. The victim requested the bullet as a memento.

Democrats Back Profiling Study and Penal Reforms in Frederick

The United Democrats of Frederick County on Monday voted to back a statewide study on whether police use racial profiling during investigations. They unanimously supported a bill to create a program housing offenders under Health and Mental Hygiene supervision until safe for release, and endorsed a moratorium on Maryland's death penalty pending impact studies on minority sentencing. The group also opposed charter schools within the public system and urged open community dialogue on racial issues. For next meeting, topics include parole end effects, nursing home video monitoring costs, voting system reform, and recount procedures standards.
