Mini ice age brings sleet and crashes to Frederick County roads
A mini ice age moved through Frederick County causing sleet and freezing rain to replace predicted snowfall. Clearing conditions were forecast tonight with lows near 30, and Thursday would be mostly sunny in the mid 40s. A second winter storm kept roads slick and crews busy salting and sanding, with 82 workers and 48 pieces of equipment on the move late Tuesday night. Maryland State Police logged 13 collisions, including a cruiser crash on Interstate 270 near Md 80, with no injuries reported. Schools canceled Wednesday morning as roads improved and the snow emergency was lifted midmorning.
