Williamsburg Garden Symposium marks 32nd spring in new format

Williamsburg Virginia hosts the 32nd Williamsburg Garden Symposium from April 25. The event gathers plant and landscape design enthusiasts from across half the states and Canada for lectures, demonstrations, clinics, tours, and workshops in Colonial Williamsburg gardens. Noted experts from the American Horticultural Society and University of Connecticut staff join local authorities to offer how-to sessions on pruning propagation indoor plant care and garden design. Internationally known George W. Smith will headline a world of floral arrangements demonstration. A Historic Tidewater Tour to Norfolk and to the Moses Meyer and Willoughby Baylor houses is on the agenda.

Cancer risk rises with smoking and drinking says expert

Dr Elizabeth Whelan of the American Council on Science and Health cites Family Circle February 3 noting two cigarettes plus two daily drinks may raise cancer risk by 1500 percent. She calls alcohol a potential co carcinogen that promotes cancer with cigarettes and urges complete abstinence from alcohol for smokers to lower risk.

Godspell brings open auditions to Maryland School for the Deaf

First Baptist Church of Frederick sponsors Godspell directed by Anna May Hughes. The show plays tonight at the Maryland School for the Deaf auditorium with additional performances Friday and Saturday as part of a tour that began last May. Admission is free.
