15000 Miners On Strike In Pennsylvania Wilkes Barre
In Pennsylvania's anthracite fields the number of striking miners rose toward 15000. The unauthorized action protests a 59 cent monthly union dues increase decided last October. Production has fallen at 13 mines, worsening fuel shortages in New England and the 17 state area. UMWA Chief John L Lewis urged a return to work while officials pressed for a prompt resumption and a wage plan.
