Russian Santa Pageant Inspires Mixed-Cultural Cheer
A Moscow troupe and Dance Unlimited staged a powder blue and white Christmas ballet with English dialogue and Russian phrases to a sold-out crowd. Children adopted from Russia and former Soviet states participated, while families shared memories of Orthodox Christmas and North Pole stories as a Frank Foundation program linked adoptions in Frederick and Gaithersburg to celebrations and family traditions.

Teens Work Trends Raise Questions on Balancing Jobs and School
A NRC report notes about 60 percent of 12 to 17 year olds hold jobs and cites concerns that working more than 20 hours weekly may affect sleep grades and drug use. Experts urge Congress to revise child labor laws, stressing parental guidance remains key in balancing work with academics and activities. Katie Brown, 17, from Thomas Johnson High School, saved 1900 from a Sam Goody job and kept grades up by agreeing with her parents to cut hours if needed.
