Economists See 1966 Economy Grow by 40 Billion
Government officials and economists believe the national economy will expand by about 40 billion in 1966. They note rising prices from Viet Nam military spending and sustained growth despite higher interest rates. The Fed raised the discount rate from 4 to 4.5 percent to curb the pace. GNP is projected at 710 to 715 billion for 1966, with 672 billion in 1965. The balance of payments target is a deficit or surplus not exceeding 230 million.
