Adam Lodge of I O F from this city attended the public installation of the Catoctin Lodge in Middletown. They rode with the American Band to the Methodist Church for the ceremony. Francis Brengle spoke on Friendship Love and Truth and the group enjoyed a fine collation before returning home at eleven.
A new curiosity at the Skids museum features a petrified sponge large around 56 inches, felled from Mt Alto in Pennsylvania. The lump of iron ore and earth now shows a sponge-like form, weighed down to about three pounds, its origin and transformation puzzling visitors.

Joe Meyer, a Regenour's clothier on North Market street, launches advertising with two gilt 20x80 frames. One features a self portrait and business synopsis funded by Henry F. Scknock and W. A. Burger provided the photo, with lettering by Henry R. Lampe. Plans place frames at City Hotel and Carlin House to lure customers to his low price clothing boots and shoes at the old stand.
A list of letters remaining in the Vredenk City Post Office on Saturday January 31. Names include Mrs. Susie Mentroran, Brien Casper, JD Haug, Betta Saad, Ebues Welster, and Miller. Other line items show amounts and partial notes. several entries reference delivery and caller inquiries with instructions if not claimed within a stated period.

An explosion of fire damp at the Oxford colliery of the Delaware Lackawanna and Western in Hyde Park Scranton occurred Thursday afternoon tearing out hoisting and air shafts and isolating fourteen men. Within an hour rescuers found all alive. three seriously burned with one possibly fatally injured others injured. Cause of the blast is unknown.
Buried services held for William Garfield Six age two years and over three months on Mt Olivet Cemetery with Rev Osborne Ingle officiating undertakers P and A Rice. David J L Staley died Saturday at Brook Hill age 62 years 6 months 23 days buried at Mt Olivet with Dr Bachbach of Reformed Church conducting service. Mrs Elton Ricketts died Saturday at West South Street residence of consumption and was buried this afternoon with Rev A M Evers officiating.
A San Francisco gathering at the Grand hotel discussed launching a world’s fair in 1888. Gov. Stoneman read letters from the Pacific coast delegation promising support and a $1,000,000 guarantee fund, with pressure to secure congressional and state approvals. The effort was strongly favored, with a large implied backing and a $2.3 billion stake mentioned.
A garbled message promises revival and strength through a bottle of Cleotas Pitters sold at ten cents by Garroit & cele. It hints at anger, life, and activity improving with the remedy, urging belief in its restorative claims.

It claims rapid healing for burns, bruises, cuts, ulcers, rashes, fever sores, cancers, piles, chilblains, corns, tetter, chapped hands, and all eruptions, with a money refund if not cured. Sold for 25 cents per box by Garrott & Steele.
Agricultural ad from Frederick Maryland vendor P. I. Hargett & Co touts Eureke corn sheller capable of 1000 to 2000 bushels per day with cob lift to wagons, dust free cobs worth 2.00 to 2.50 per cord, crib to sheller flow, plus Champion hand cutter Silver & Deming box and Shutter wagon. Also offers drain tile and other farm goods from leading manufacturers. November 26, 1883.
