State cuts Family Partnership funding in Frederick County
Frederick County faces a 25 percent cut as the Maryland Department of Labor and Licensing Regulation ends state funding for the Family Partnership. The program, started in 1990, relies on about 98,304 from the county and around 200,000 from Friends of the Family. Officials warn layoffs and tighter services as other agencies also brace for budget squeezes.

Red Lobster plans stalled by zoning hearing in Frederick
Frederick plans for a Red Lobster restaurant face a setback as a public hearing on a site plan is stalled. Timothy Jacobsen appeals to the Board of Zoning Appeals over proposed 128 parking spaces within a 50 foot residential buffer, arguing a more specific ordinance should limit spaces. The BIA could issue a ruling on February 20. Jacobsen says reducing spaces to 108 would still meet city needs. Parks notes prior interpretations allowed similar setups and suggests a text amendment may be needed, pending Mayor and Board of Aldermen action.
