Frederick County resident Clara Maher narrowly escaped serious harm when the Amtrak train she rode collided with a freight engine in Baltimore County. In the rear club car she sustained minor knee and nose injuries and sore muscles while others in forward cars faced heavier injuries or worse.
A woman, after a car crash, was rescued by volunteers and a family who offered shelter. She contacted her husband Joseph who drove her to Bethesda Naval Hospital for X-rays and outpatient treatment. She praised the volunteers and the sheltering family.
Frederick Memorial Hospital hopes to increase its daily medical surgical room rate to fund raises for nurses averaging 3 percent this month. The proposal aims to bring FMH salaries in line with nearby Gaithersburg and Hagerstown hospitals, but the request must pass the state Health Services Cost Review Commission.
