Brief Bits of Local and General Interest
One week about to be torned the calendar of 1900. On account of icy gutters some people have troubles of their own. Already base bail talk for next season is rife. This season the poor who cannot afford coal are picking over ash piles in alleys. Make your tarped leaves shine by going to church next Sunday in the year. Marriages in 1509. During 1899 there were 670 marriage licenses issued in Frederick County Circuit Court.

Ordination service for missionary Lampe in Frederick public sermon
Rev Dr Callender opened the service with Rev Dr Kieffer delivering the first address on the young minister’s call to serve in Japan. Rev Dr Eschbach baptized and confirmed the ordination, while Rev Dr Good prophesied about Japan’s religious awakening and Westernizing changes. Lampe outlined his motives, noting the need for ministers in Japan and committing his best efforts to missionary work. The ceremony included prayers for a safe voyage, an anthem by the choir, and a detailed biographical sketch of Lampe. He was educated at Frederick College Princeton University and the Reformed Theological Seminary, licensed as a missionary in 1899, and assigned to teach at Tohoku Gakuin in Sendai. Also noted are the marriage of Rev. Mr. Tampo and Anna Sevora Toomaz, and Lampe’s upcoming departure for Japan aboard the Doric.
