Police Chief Sought Reversal Of Conviction In Electioneering Case
ANNAPOLIS January 4 Chief of Howard County Police Moxley asked the Maryland Court of Appeals to reverse his 1955 conviction for electioneering within 100 feet of polling places. He was fined 39 pounds after a juror found he distributed campaign literature for George Mahoney near a Ellicott City polling station. Evidence centered on a witness who said Moxley handed a Mahoney picture paper as voters entered the polling place. Moxley denied the account and claimed the witness did the campaigning. Witnesses for the defense said the accuser offered a Tydings ballot to influence votes. The defense argued the verdict rested on inconclusive, unc corroborated evidence. A Cham bersburg Forum guest, Ambassador Win of Burma, to speak January 9 at 8:30 pm at Chambersburg Area Senior High School auditorium.
