Andrew Anderson, a 40 year old violent patient at Essex County Home for the Insane in Newark, escaped from the asylum during a midnight fire alarm. He climbed a window, jumped two stories to the ground in night clothes, and fled as fire crews battled the blaze. Police hunted all day with fears he fled toward the Orange mountains. Thirty four patients to be moved to Morris Plan asylum. other inmates missing rumored but unconfirmed.
