Milk hauler ceases business near Keymar shock to farmers
More than 70 local dairy farmers faced a five day window to find a new milk hauler after Zent Transportation Co. announced it would cease operations at its Keymar location on January 5. John Zent said the business is dissolving following his father’s death, with some service continuing only from Marion Pennsylvania before phased withdrawal. Industry officials called for longer notice while Mid-America Dairyman offered to supply trucks and negotiate rates to relieve producers. Farmers must now independently seek replacement haulers as the Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative coordinates the transition.
