1986 a year of hope sadness transition for county educators
Frederick County educators faced a year of gains and challenges including higher ninth grade math test take rates, strong Maryland citizenship test performance, and a county lead in the state. Initiatives included a $150,000 arts program, an athletic equity committee, security concerns after a high school incident, and the naming of Hood College president Martha Church among top college leaders. A no smoking policy was set to start July 1 1987, while a fatal car crash claimed Frederick High vice principal William Shively.
