Reward Offered in Natchez Bomber Death Case
A $25,000 reward was posted by Natchez officials for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for a truck explosion that killed Charlest Jackson, a 26 year old father of six, who had recently taken a job formerly held by white workers. The blast beneath the truck’s cab occurred as Jackson drove home from work, and police chief J T Robinson said a bomb had been planted. The incident echoes a 1965 bombing that injured NAACP leader George Metcalfe, who had ridden with Jackson to work until last week. Metcalfe said Negro workers want the plant closed for investigation and NAACP leaders planned a protest rally at Beulah Baptist church. Jackson had served as Natchez NAACP treasurer until last month.
