Senate Votes Down Tag Veto Marking Political Clash
ANNAPOLIS Feb 27 1954 Maryland Senate quickly overrode Gov McKeldins veto on repealing motor vehicle registration fee increases while the House delayed final action awaiting further reports. The vote contrasted party lines with Redden of Caroline County supporting restraint on removing the fee. The fee would raise $43 million over the 12 year roads program with plates up to 7 dollars higher for cars and up to 500 dollars for trucks. Absent were DiDomenico Monroe and Weinroth. A separate measure would fund damages for negligent uninsured drivers. The House also stalled rockfish banning bills and heard insurance and liability questions from the committee.
