Frederick officials hear proposals as city workers vote Thursday on union terms for a cheaper parking garage. Mayor Hesihd N Youngs discusses pay increases, monthly employee awards, and the impact of a potential downtown Post Office move.

Critics from Senate leaders warn shortages persist despite claims the crisis is over as AAA notes reduced refinery hours and rationing risks mounting in Atlantic states and Pacific Northwest.
The Postal Service announced rate increases take effect at 12:01 a.m. on March 2 including first class from 8 to 10 cents and all mail classes up about 15 to 20 percent. International rates rise about 20 percent with Canada and Mexico equal to the new domestic 10 cent letter rate.

A Frederick Gas Company executive cites no growth gas shortages since 1972 and mentions a forthcoming synthetic gas supply.
County Square will not be approved for a gas station, city officials stated. City Engineer Michael Pue Jr. said the permit, filed Jan 31, would not be granted and the site would not be built even if approved.
State Senator Charles H Smelser introduces SB 71 ELECTED OFFICIALS to amend Maryland Constitution section 3 article XV. The bill would remove elected officials upon conviction of certain crimes, denying appeals, to restore public confidence. opponents warn of due process concerns.
