Repairs Probed On Highways As Warmth Aids Drying
State Roads workers and police continued weighing trucks and making temporary repairs after routes 240 340 46 east and 15 north were restricted to protect traffic. Route 40 to western Maryland and to the Pennsylvania line was open. Middletown to Wolfsville remained restricted. Mohler cited a warm wind helping dry the surfaces and easing damage risks. Linden Hills forecast near 60 degrees with possible showers tonight or Saturday and a colder Sunday with rain. A 62 degree high was recorded yesterday and a 40 degree overnight low differed from city readings.

Mine Owners Begin Talks With Pension Demand Standoff
Washington February 27 soft coal mine owners seek a reply to John L Lewis pension plan aimed at averting a new contract crisis. Lewis head of United Mine Workers proposes using welfare and retirement funds to pay 100 dollars monthly to eligible miners. Fund grows from a ten cent per ton royalty under last year’s contract. Operators say Lewis demand would require a much larger contribution perhaps 50 cents per ton.
