Sheriff Seeks Budget Boost By 85 Percent
Sheriff Richard Baumgartner on Thursday announced a request for an 85 percent budget hike for fiscal 1972 from 140000 to 260000. The proposal adds four riding deputies two secretaries three jail deputies a dog warden and salary raises to expand countywide law enforcement duties and support for court operations. It also calls for four cars firearms uniforms riot gear and a replacement for the dog warden truck with a rail van and other equipment.

Three Men Sentenced To Prison In Frederick Case
Frederick Circuit Court Judge Samuel Barrick imposed prison terms from two to seven years on three men. Allen Lee Thomas, 21, received six years for heroin sales plus one year for an Oct. 12 jail escape and three concurrent two year terms. Bruce Thomas Joy, 18, got two years for marijuana and amphetamines offenses and maintaining a common nuisance. Frank Elmer Wenzell, 28, of Charles Town, was sentenced to three years for passing two checks for 75 dollars each. Thomas pleaded guilty to five charges including burglary, heroin sale to a state police agent, receiving a stolen drill, and the escape.

Thomas Stuart Haller Dies at 79 Local Architect
Thomas Stuart Haller, a prominent Frederick landscape architect and Mer cesburg Academy graduate, died suddenly at his Pinefield Hill residence on Wednesday evening. Born November 2, 1891 in Frederick, he was the last of his immediate family and had studied at the University of Pennsylvania and New York School of Fine Arts. He was a longtime member of horticulturist associations and received honors from the American Civic Association for his innovative designs including work at Mercersburg Academy.
