Frederick County Public Schools held a telephone poll asking callers to rate nine budget items. Reducing class size drew 99 messages in favor, while teacher pay raises and reading programs topped other priorities. Respondents urged better pay to attract staff and noted concerns over facilities, textbooks, technology, and curriculum.
The Israeli Supreme Court halted the extradition of 18 year old Samuel Sheinbein to the United States on murder charges in Maryland. The 3-2 ruling upheld Israel’s 1978 law barring extradition, saying no extra affinity with Israel is required for citizenship. He will be indicted in Israel and remain in detention while U S and Israeli officials respond.
In Circuit Court, Dr. John Adams, a Towson forensic pathologist, disputed the state medical examiner in the Jean Louis Arnaud Nance murder case. Adams said Pilkington died from stab wounds but could have also drowned, noting no proof of drowning, while acknowledging the possibility Pilkington could have lived after stabbing.
Nancy Adams Holt planned a separation talk with her husband the night before she was murdered. Her parents recalled trusting Donald Holt until he missed a polygraph test two weeks after her death. Mrs Holt was strangled Jan 18 in their Mount Airy garage as the couple’s children and family awaited answers.

Frederick Jaycees name Ramona Salote of Creatwood Village and Florence Branden of Burkittsville as Outstanding Senior Citizens for volunteer service with hospitals schools scouting and the American Red Cross. Mrs Johnstone credited her husband Robert with guiding her start in volunteering and recalls early home life and community work.
Roger F Nicodemus 50 of Frederick died February 22 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born November 6 1948, he was active in Ick County arts, with Fredericktowne Players and founder of Beneath My Wings Productions. He served on Maryland State Arts Council and was an auditor at Farmers and Mechanics Bank.
