Board One announced eighty local men must report for final physicals and probable induction. Among them are thirty four from the city, with seventy white and ten colored. most are from the fifth registration aged 18 to 20. New War Department rules require surrender of registration cards at induction.
Officials report about half the city and county residents received War Ration Book Two on Tuesday and Wednesday with around 11 000 issued in Frederick city. Most people declared zero for canned fruits vegetables juices and soups beyond the five can per person allowance while coffee declasration proceeds. Registration was cancelled for Saturday and Pruitt expects higher daily intake as schools continue to run the program from 2 pm to 9 pm.
Budapest, capital of Hungary, endured a 10 minute air alarm early this morning, Berlin radio reported to the Associated Press. No official report had been published on the subject. Soviet forces push across the front amid deep snows and mud as weather eases enough for increased air activity. Moscow dispatches report stronger enemy counter-attacks repelled with heavy losses, while Berlin claims German raids and air battles west of Rostov.
London reports RAF bombers hit Wilhelmshaven and western Germany last night with no losses. This marks the sixteenth German raid this month, as Allied planes pushed tonnage targets higher. Earlier in the month Lorient’s submarine base raid dumped over 1,000 tons of explosives. No enemy activity over Britain at night. Gandhi’s condition unchanged on day sixteen of his fast.
Local Post Office officials will investigate slow handling of mail for Frederick Maryland from Baltimore and Washington. Second Assistant Postmaster General Purdam told Congressman Beall improvements are being sought for mail to Camp Ritchie and the Naval Training Camp at Frederick. Roger B. Wolfe of the Frederick Chamber of Commerce arranged the inquiry after receiving complaints from local businesses about early morning eastern mail and possible Baltimore pocketing. A star route from Baltimore or Washington is suggested along with weekend dispatch improvements.
Washington reports Rice is not on the ration list, despite rumors of suspension. The Office of Price Administration announced price ceilings on lettuce and spinach and indicated more fresh vegetables may come under control, with 96 percent of foods already under price regulation.

Washington February 25 President Roosevelt was confined to his living quarters in the White House today due to a slight intestinal disturbance. He canceled all appointments and aides said he had a slight fever of about one degree but would need two or three days of quiet.
A Foreign Office spokesman denied Finland entered talks for a separate peace with Soviet Russia. Reports say Finland may propose terms or withdraw from Germany's war, with guarantees of territorial integrity. observers note 100,000 German troops in Finland and Goebbels hints that Germany may favor an armistice in the east.

Morgan Hutchinson colored of near Frederick was not admitted as injuries were minor. The men were traveling on the car when it failed to stop for the ahead train. one reportedly jumped to safety. The incident prompted transport by train to Wresterick Junction and ambulance escort through Frederick by City Officer Charles Beil.
Washington reports by the Office of Price Administration state the special ration board for Congressmen expedites their applications without granting any extra entitlements. Luther Reid, director, says it mirrors boards in war plants to speed ration issues for workers and mentions boards in Baltimore Los Angeles and Buffalo plant areas.
Chungking reports four Japanese local offensives in the Yangtze valley and far southwest were held or turned back. A Japanese crossing attempt in central Hupeh failed under Chinese artillery and air bombing. Western Hupeh saw a thwarted attack from Tangyang. A Chinese column routed northwest of Kapan and in the Yangtze valley. In Yunnan near the Saiween river, a Japanese advance was repelled.
Allied forces led by General Sir Harold Alexander launch a three pronged counteroffensive in central Tunisia aimed at breaking Rommel’s last hold at Kasserine Pass. American French and British troops push from north while the Mareth Line area in the south sees armored advances and air forces strike deep into the enemy rear. Italian infantry and prisoners fall as Axis positions crumble under air bombardment and ground pressure.
British announce a raid by marines under Archibald Wavell against Japanese positions southeast of Akyab in Burma. Raiders destroyed installations, burned enemy buildings, blew a jetty, and destroyed a river steamer. No casualties reported. The operation targeted the rear of defending Japanese forces at the Myebon area near the Bay of Bengal.
Frederick forms Section 2 of the American Women's Voluntary Service after a Friday meeting. Mrs. A. G. Bourne Jr. chairs the new unit with Miss Eunice Hutchins directing nursery school training. Canteen and sewing room sites are under consideration, and officers include Mrs. Bourne, Mrs. Henson, Mrs. Ambush, Miss Brown, and Mrs. Brown.
In Des Moines on February 25, Robert C. Mercer and John Henry A. Replogle, both 26, former inspectors at the Des Moines ordnance plant, were acquitted of charges that they approved and certified defective ammunition as high quality.
George P Sacks 70 longtime Bethesda Bank president died at his Chevy Chase home after months of illness. A Washington native, he helped found Chapin Sacks Ice Cream, later absorbed by Southern Dairies, and served on boards including National Bank of Washington and Norfolk-Washington Steamship. He led Bethesda Bank since 1921 and was first president of Bethesda Chevy Chase Rotary Club. He also chaired Bethesda Chamber of Commerce and belonged to Temple Noyes Masonic Lodge No 32.
Chicago dated report describes a hemispheric crusade to support wartime efforts in 1943. Rev Terence A Seery S M national director says the crusade will begin March 12 in 1 168 Catholic churches in the United States and 156 abroad where the Friday Novena is conducted.
