Eastern Airlines unveils fares to 80 cities undercutting discounts
Eastern Airlines announced cut-rate air fares by up to 40 percent with Continental joining in offering superlow fares to more than 80 U S cities starting Sunday. Miami based Eastern quotes $29 to $99 Monday through Thursday and $39 to $219 on Friday and Sunday for travel nationwide. Examples include New York at $79 or $99 and Los Angeles at $89 or $99. The move follows Eastern's 1983 losses of 350 million dollars and its 1986 debt heavy position after a takeover by Texas Air Corp. The piece mixes in tourism notes and other unrelated travel ads.
