Khomeini rules out early hostage release by Iran’s parliament
Ayatollah Khomeini said the fate of the American hostages will be decided by Iran’s Islamic parliament elected in a two part vote on March 14 and April 3. He praised militants who seized the U.S. Embassy, and noted Bani-Sadr and the Revolutionary Council will push for extradition of the deposed shah. An international panel left Geneva for Tehran as U.N. and U.S. officials eyed progress toward a release. Twenty Iranian and Arab defendants freed in Austin after a dispute with the University of Texas raised concerns for negotiations with Iran. they face a March 13 trial for disrupting a public meeting.

The Tourism Council of Frederick County reports 1979 visitor volume remained strong as residents of Washington and Baltimore sought Frederick as a recreation destination. Executive Director Sonia Maher notes ongoing efforts for 1980 include a visitor center on U S 15, new brochures, media ads, expanded distribution, and more group tours. In 1979 the I 70 Center hosted 82,827 visitors and 19,851 visited the Frederick Center, with extensive referrals, brochure distribution, and press outreach.
